Alternative Dispute Resolution
In an effort to lower the escalating cost of litigation and reduce crowded dockets in state and federal courts, jurisdictions are increasingly turning to the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) forums of neutral third party mediation and arbitration to settle cases earlier and more economically than through protracted litigation. Joseph Selep, former President of Zimmer Kunz, and a trial lawyer with more than 35 years of civil litigation experience, has presided over more than 1000 cases as a neutral third party mediator or arbitrator in Pennsylvania and West Virginia State and Federal Court matters since 2002. Mr. Selep has handled matters in the following areas: Construction; Professional liability involving doctors, hospitals, other medical professionals, accountants, engineers, architects or lawyers; Personal and commercial automobile accidents; Trucking and transportation accidents; Wrongful death actions; Product liability claims; Class actions; Insurance coverage issues; Toxic torts; Employment law; Personal injuries; and, Business and Commercial litigation.
In what is probably the highest compliment that can be paid to a third party neutral mediator/arbitrator, Mr. Selep’s services are recommended equally by plaintiff and defense counsel to try to settle their client’s disputes. Although the firm is hesitant to cite statistics and successful settlement percentages because of the old adage that past performance is no guarantee of future success, you don’t get asked to serve as a neutral arbiter of over 1000 disputes unless your results are overwhelmingly positive.
