Pennsylvania Legislative Update – Pennsylvania is Amending Requirements for Use of Child Seats
The Pennsylvania legislature has passed Senate Bill 1152 amending requirements for the use of child seats.
Pennsylvania law under Title 75, Section 4581 already requires children under age 4 to be secured in a child seat, but does not specify the direction they must face. Bill 1152 amends this Section, requiring children to ride in rear-facing car seats until age 2. Those who outgrow the height and weight requirements designated by the car-seat manufacturer would be exempted. The requirement that children age 4 to 8 be fastened by seat belt with an age appropriate booster seat has not changed. Governor Wolf has indicated that he will sign the bill. The bill will take effect in 60 days.
